The Milton girls’ basketball team’s four-year stretch of making it to at least the Division II quarterfinals was snapped with a first-round loss against Randolph last year.
The Yellowjackets will look to start a new streak and hopefully get even farther through the tournament under first-year coach Nicole Colantoni.
The team will have a good core of players returning this season with a good balance of skills they bring with them.
Senior forward Madalyn Leggett will be a good post player for the team and brings size and athleticism to the team.
Leggett is joined by a trio of juniors, who should play key roles for the team. Madison Chalmers (guard/forward) has speed and agility that will benefit the team, while Megan Reilly (guard) will be a hot shooter for the team. Kate Rowley is a guard/forward that will be a shutdown defender for the team.
“Our willingness to learn and succeed is one of our strengths heading into the season,” said Colantoni. “The quickness, new energy level and experience from many years of playing together should help us through the season as well.”
Still early in the preseason, the team is looking to polish the fundamentals and gaining confidence in themselves and their teammates to build the chemistry up.
After going 10-10 during the regular season last year and being upset as the No. 6 seed in the first round of the playoffs, the team will hope they can continue to build up their fundamentals throughout the season to make a deep postseason run.
“We need to fine tune and perfect our basic skills,” said Colantoni. “We need to come together as a team to find our confidence, and maintain a positive attitude throughout the season.”
The team will look to start the season off on the right foot when it hosts Montpelier on Dec. 10 with a 11:30 a.m. tip off.
